Jose’s Mexican Restaurant is the realization of a longtime dream of Jose Montemayor (†), who journeyed from Mexico to Houston with the ambition of building a successful business. After twelve years of experience with a renowned Mexican food establishment, Jose brought his vision to College Station in 1971, creating a restaurant synonymous with authentic Mexican cuisine served with warmth and hospitality.

Our decor reflects a contemporary Mexican aesthetic, while our menu is rooted in tradition. The dishes we serve are inspired by the family recipes enjoyed daily in Mexican homes. At Jose’s, everything is made from scratch—there are no pre-prepared foods, soy extenders, artificial flavor enhancers, or instant mixes. We pride ourselves on serving old-fashioned, handcrafted Mexican food, prepared slowly and seasoned to perfection.

The heart of our kitchen lies in our heritage. Jose’s mother, Mama Maria de los Angeles Garcia de Montemayor (†), was our first supervising cook. She learned to cook from her mother, passing down cherished family recipes that have been carefully preserved by the next generation of cooks. Every dish served at Jose’s still adheres to Mama's high standards, ensuring nothing reaches your table until it meets our approval.
